This is a fabulous pair of 1970s red crushed plastic bookends.
These bookends are rare items in the Shattaline range. They are made of two thick slabs of vibrant resin set at right angles to each other - and each is embellished with a large solid red ball, as photographed. The back and base of each slab is covered with its original red felt.
Both are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks - and all nice and shiny. You often find these with little chips to the corners of edges - but my ones have no such issues.
The scarlet red colour is a much rarer one and this is reflected in my asking price for this pair.
They both measure about 5 inches in height.
Shattaline Limited operated from the mid-1960s for about 10 years.
They made a range of products using a patented process which created a "crazed" effect within the resin.
The company was based in Scotland for a time. They made paperweights, pen holders, candle holders, lamps, table lighters - and even tables! (I actually own a coffee table which I might sell if there was serious interest).
The process for making these items was labour-intensive and craft-based and resulted in a very high level of rejection. Stattaline items were therefore relatively expensive to make, and not the cheap plastic items that people often assume them to be.
The postage will be with Royal Mail Recorded and this will be £4.95 and applied to your order at the checkout.
