They both date to the 1950s and have abstract designs which are very attractive and typical of the period.
The round one - is cream, black, gold and orange in colour. I think this might have been for a larger tin full of Mackintosh's Toffee which would have been presented to a family at Christmas in the 50s. The fine abstract decoration reminds me of snowflakes. The lid has one big large flake on it - and around the sides is the same motif - but printed smaller. It is in good condition with no scratches or dents - the interior is nice and clean - but with some oxidization commensurate with age -
This decorative tin measures: 6 inches in diameter with a height of 3 inches.
The other delightful 1950s tin is another one of my Sharp's tins (Maidstone Kent) that I have in my store. This is a very rare design and very much inspired by the Festival of Britain motifs. It is red, cream and periwinkle blue in colour. There are little blue abstract atomic shapes all over - and a selection of fine diagonal lines suggesting movement. There is a star on the lid. The tin is octagonal in shape - and it has a raised shaped lid. The thing about this Sharp's Toffee Tin that I like best is all the images of cute little fish shown in the oval lozenges around the sides.
This one measures 5 inches in height and the diameter is 4 1/2 inches. I am selling these lovely ones for £25 each - due to their age (nearly 70 years old now), their lovely condition - and also the attractiveness and rarity of the design. They look fabulous on display in a period interior.
