This is a very rare and early advertising tin - probably for display in a shop.
It is Edwardian in date; probably around the 1920s -
It advertises sweets - to be more specific - the Blue Boy Assortment of Toffees.
The sweets were made by George Horner & Son, Chester-Le Street, Durham and London.
Rare tin, but with some condition issues, but displays well.
Would make a great item for a window display in an old fashioned sweetie shop - or on display in a vintage kitchen.
The sides of the tin are a mustard colour with turquoise blue lozenges - which contains the text tellling you all about the contents. The Horner's logo is rather Art Deco in style - so perhaps this dates this tin to the later part of the 1920s.
I also love the little advertising logo of the College Boy on the purple lid. He is shown in an Art Nouveau cartouche to the top - he has chubby cheeks and wears a shiny top hat. Some slight scuffing to this image - but given this is now 100 years old quite acceptable.
My asking price reflects this one's early date and rarity.
Condition - all colours are fairly vibrant. Some minor rubbing to the decoration. Gilding to areas still nice and shiny (especially around the sides) - with again little areas of rubbing - but most of the more fragile gold colouring is still present.
A few minor dings to the lid - but nothing disfiguring. There are no nasty dents or rust - the inside is free from any rust. For a tin of this age - it is just fine and dandy.
Although the tin has a patina of age - the tin has been carefully cleaned by me - and is not dirty or grubby in any way.
Tin measures: 10 inches in diameter - and a bit more shallow - it is about 3 3/4 inches in height.
Fair price for this early advertising item.
