Aileen Mary Elliott (1896 - 1966) was a British artist who was best known for her paintings and etchings of boats and harbour scenes.

Elliott was born in Southampton in 1864. She studied at the Regent Street Polytechnic, London and subsequently at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. She was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy in London and at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh between 1922 and 1940. She also participated in exhibitions at the Society of Women Artists, and the Walker Gallery, Liverpool. From 1930 she was shown at the Paris Salon.

Examples of her work are in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

In 1925, she made a series of views of the River Thames. I think that this work (not dated) is from this time. It is number 17 from an edition of 75. So quite early in the print run with lovely dark lines and detail. It is pencil signed, lower right.

It is in great condition. The sheet has not been laid down in the past - and is free from blemishes. It has never been on display - and we have recently had it mounted with a good acid-free window mount. You just need to select a frame for your interior. It is listed at a very fair price - for this very competent antique print.

It is a wonderful etching and drypoint if you have a house or flat at the old wharves on the banks of the Thames. The artist has shown all the activity of little sailing boats loading and unloading their haul onto the decks of the wharf.

Dimensions: Mount size is 30 x 34.5 cm. The image size is 18 x 23.5 cm.

UK Postage will be Recorded Post with the Royal Mail and this will be capped at £4.95.

SUPERB SERVICE

A few days ago, I was fortunate enough to purchase an etching from Iconic Edinburgh's website. I did this purely on spec, because I wanted a classic image of Thames barges. Iconic Edinburgh had exactly what I was looking for: a lovely drypoint from the 1920s. The price was reasonable (very) and all was set fair.
The end result was even better than I expected. Not only was the correspondence between me and the seller very enjoyable, but it inspired confidence in what I was buying - and that is always a huge plus, especially if anything antique is involved.
When 'Thames Barges' arrived, beautifully packaged, I couldn't have been more pleased. The condition and quality of the very nicely mounted picture were (and are) superb.
Iconic Edinburgh is obviously one of those highly professional businesses that gets pleasure from what it does, and I have no hesitation in recommending them. I will certainly be paying a return visit!
