This is a lovely vintage artist's proof by Barbara Rae. It was made at the Edinburgh Printmakers' when they were based down at Union Street.
Barabara Rae is perhaps one of Scotland's best-known and regarded contemporary artists. She was born in Falkirk in 1943 and studied at Edinburgh College of Art during the early 1960s. After graduating, Rae was awarded a travel scholarship, taking her to work in France and Spain in 1966. Her travels provide her with an endless source of inspiration.
Her first solo show was held in 1967 at the New 57 Gallery in Edinburgh.
Rae has been the recipient of numerous awards, including her election as President of the Society of Scottish Artists in 1983. She was made a Member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1992 (ARSA 1980) and a Royal Academician in 1996. In 1999 she was awarded a CBE and received an honorary doctorate from Napier University, Edinburgh.
Rae taught drawing and painting at Glasgow School of Art until 1996. Her works often combines the influence of landscape and travel with painterly abstraction and intense bursts of colour.
Rae’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and has been included in many private collections in Britain, Europe and the USA, as well as in many public and corporate collections.
My impression of this wonderful silk screenprint is fully signed along the bottom margin Rae 93. And it has the title "Seagate" and A/P (for artist's proof).
It is sold with original whitewashed wooden frame and ready to hang. The print has been framed floating - which means that it has been placed in the frame without a window mount to you can see the deckled edge of the nice sheet of paper that the print has been printed on.
The image size is 27 x 31 cm. The sheet size is 33 x 37 cm.
The wooden frame measures: 65.5 x 53.5 cm.
