This is a hard to find large bundle of vintage Smash Hits Magazines. It was a British music magazine and ran from 1978 to 2006. It was initially published monthly - but proved to be so popular that they upped them to appearing once a fortnight. The magazine featured the lyrics of latest hits and interviews with big names in music. Its interviewing technique was novel at the time and, rather than looking up to the big names, it often made fun of them, asking strange questions rather than talking about their music.
There are 66 in total and the issues on offer run from 14 June 1979 until 26 December 1981. These early issues are now harder to find - especially as a run of issues such as this. I am therefore going to sell them as a large bundle. I am selling them for £5 for each issue - many of these issues retail online for twice that price. They also look just fabulous all framed up.
They are all in good condition with no missing pages, tears or any grubbiness. They seem to have been on order every week at a local newsagent as the name of the subscriber is written on the top margin of each issue (to identify for personal pick-up and reservation). That is the only thing that stops them being pristine!
The years in question were certainly the "golden years" of Smash Hits - with the rise of New Wave and Power Pop. All the famous bands are there - Blondie, Adam and the Ants, Siouxsie, Gary Newman, The Clash, Sparks, John Lydon, The Specials, Steve Strange. It is the start of the New Romantics era. So there you go - a wee taste of yer teenage years - most of these magazines were very disposable and not many people kept big bundles of them for the last 45 year. You wont find another "job lot" like this easily. These pre-date Wham - when George Michael regularly featured and appeared on the covers. Aye! those were the days ..
I have taken lots of images of random selection of the covers - the covers of Smash Hits were always were stunning. There was always a celebrity poster on the back and occasional double spreads inside.
There are lots of interesting short articles inside and also the words to all the hit songs of the day. It was the ultimate teenage music mag of the late 70s / early 80s.
I will be sending to you in a sturdy box and waterproofed inside. Due to the weight of the magazine I am going to have to charge £14.95 for postage with Parcelforce24.
