This jug or pitcher dates to around the 1950s.
It is fabulous design: entitled Macdonald's Farm (not the Johnston's brothers got the spelling wrong on the backstamp on the base).
The design features naive stylised drawings of items which you might find on an American farmstead. The pattern is transfer printed and hand-coloured under the glaze. I love the little apple tree printed on the length of the handle and the little rosy red falling apples.
The jug measures spout to handle: 7 ¼ inches. The main diameter is about 4 inches and the height is 3 ½ inches.
In excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There is a tiny touch of staining to the unglazed rim of the foot (as the base and not visible on display). But this is such a rare thing - and I have taken this into consideration with my pricing.
