This is a fine antique Wedgwood Black Basalt jasperware.
It dates to the early 20th century - as it is marked WEDGWOOD and MADE IN ENGLAND was a letter M, all as photographed. Earlier 19th century example have much higher prices than these early 20th century ones. This is reflected in my asking price for this one. It is certainly a fabulous design - and highly collectable.
It is in excellent condition with no damages or marks to the surface.
It take the form of a tall tubular shape spill vase - you would pop this on your mantlepiece and insert long spills into it to assist you to light candles on your room or a little fire.
It is a fine piece decorated with Classical motifs. There is a frieze of foliate scrolls at the rim. Below this are ram's head masks connected with floral swags. There are climbing bell flowers and ancanthus leaves placed vertically on the vase.
These classical motifs were popular on earlier Wedgwood Grand Tour pieces and continued to be used on Wedgwood pieces.
The height of the spill vase is 8 1/2 inches in height. The diameter of the rim is 2 3/4 inches and on the wider base section it is 3 1/4 inches. Unpacked it is 800 grams in weight.
