This is a beautiful etching and drypoint by one of Scotland's finest printmakers, Sir Muirhead Bone (1876 - 1953).
Muirhead Bone was born in Partick, Glasgow, and trained as an architect. He attended evening classes at Glasgow School of Art and was self-taught as an etcher.
In 1901 he settled in London, where he quickly established an international reputation, selling prints for large sums. He produced nearly 500 prints, and was knighted in 1937.
This very accomplished print shows a view of the harbour at Lowestoft - and is entitled: Autumn Breeze.
It is a very fine velvety impression with lots of rich drypoint burr. It is in generally fine condition with no spotting, tears to the sheet etc. There are some slight ripples or faint white marks in the sky area, near the top centre. This is only noticeable on close-up inspection, and the etching looks just fine when hung on your wall for display. This is reflected in my grratly reduced asking price. There is also a little crease to the paper to the lower left corner near the platemark, I have photographed this for you. Please check all my images to assess the condition and now nicely the etching looks on display.
The price for this very fine drypoint by Muirhead Bone has been reduced to take into account these little issues that stops the print from being presented as totally perfect. The print had previously been retailed though the Fine Art Society in Edinburgh when they were based on George Street in the 1990s.

It is being sold framed in a plain painted grey frame and with a new museum quality acid-free window mount. The print has not been laid down onto a backing sheet.
Another impression of this fine drypoint is in the collection of the Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, as well as in collection of the Met, New York. It is a work of museum quality.
