This is a charming little etchings by William Walcot.

It is pencil signed and in excellent condition, It comes with a cream mount and gold frame. It is ready to just hang on your wall.

The fine antique condition of this work has been taken into account in my pricing.

This little gem of an etching shows a corner of Parliament Square (behind St Giles Cathedral) just off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. The sculpture on the plinth is one of the oldest existing equestrian lead sculptures in the UK. It shows King Charles II on horseback. It is sited on a high plinth and stands in front of the entrance to the Supreme Courts of Scotland adjoining Parliament House, on the west side. The sculpture survived the Great Fire of 1824 - as it had been taken in for one of its many repairs!

I love Walcot's addition of all the little figures milling about - these add a sense of scale to the buildings and they convey a sense of movement.

This print comes from a small series of five etchings made by Walcot called "The Edinburgh Set". They were issued in 1918 and only had 75 published.

Image size: 7 x 10 cm. Frame size: 27 x 28 cm.

It is certainly a lovely print by this celebrated printmaker and in such fine condition. The ink is much darker on this than you find on similar subjects.

To make sure the artwork is fully insured against damage or loss in transit - we would have to send with Royal Mail Special Next Day Delivery - this will cost about £10 and applied to your order at the checkout.
