This is a highly collectable Tribal or Harlekin Pattern Vase produced by the Danish designer, Michael Andersen & Son, Bornholm, Denmark.
The vase was designed by Marianne Starck who worked for Andersen as the artistic director from 1959 - 1993.
The body of the vase is a nice matte dark brown / near black shade - and it is decorated with a geometric pattern of black, white & russet orange colours. Reminiscent of Zulu designs. The base is impressed with its issue number: 5740. And also the cypher for Andersen - featuring three wee herrings contained within a shield.
It is 5 3/4 inches in height and is 4 inches wide; with a depth of 2 1/2 inches. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
These "tribal" pieces are now harder to find - and are much sought after. I have owned this one for many year - and it comes from my personal collection.
