Nicholas Mosse was initially trained at Harrow in England. He moved with his wife Susan to Ireland in 1976. They had a shared love of nature and botanical imagery. They established a small pottery in a shed on the Mosse family land at Bennettsbridge in County Kilkenny - this family business was called Nicholas Mosse Pottery. They are still based there producing fine ceramics household and tableware decorated with rustic spongeware patterns. These mugs are always attractive and of the highest quality.
On offer here is this pre-loved, but as new little creamer jug. This is a harder-to-find shape. It is decorated with spongeware apples all around the middle of the mug - and in bands above and below - checkered red bands. The interior is a pale mustard yellow and this colour is picked up on the foot outside. I love the sweet little impressed flowerhead on each end of the handles.
This jug is 3 3/4 inches in height (9.5 cm) and has a diameter of 3 1/4 inches (8.5 cm).
It is in perfect condition, lovely and clean.
