These are spare trios that I am listing and come as supplements to the vintage Danish coffee set that I also have in stock.
I have a total of 6 altogether. It was made by Royal Copenhagen - and all pieces are fully marked on the base.
The pattern is called Wheat Germ or "Hvedekorn" (in Danish). The design is certainly very elegant and dates to the 1960s. The china is a nice warm off-white colour and is embossed with little vertical short stripes - which look like little wheat grains. The series was designed by Thorkild Olsen (1890 - 1973).
Olsen was a Danish artist and ceramicist. He joined the Royal Copenhagen factory in 1911 and spent most of his career there. He is best known for his experimental glazes and for his decoration of ceramics. Throughout his career, Olsen worked in a variety of roles at the Royal Porcelain Factory, where he became an important collaborator with Nils Thorsson in the development of Aluminia Pottery. He was instrumental in establishing the Royal Porcelain Factory's world reputation with his skills in modeling and decoration.
This Wheat pattern was designed later in his career - when he was experimenting with blanc de chine ceramics - and incorporating cut outs and reliefs that emphasized the transparency and fineness of the china.
Olsen won a silver medal at the Paris World Fair in 1925. His work can be found in leading museums including MOMA, New York, Design Museum in Copenhagen, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
