This is a lovely piece of mid-century Murano glass.
It is a beautiful sculptural piece that takes the shape of a biomorphic open clam shell.
It still has its original label on the base - it has been rubbed slightly with the vase being picked up and put down over the decades. The vase was made by Archimede Suguso and not signed with the label as often used on the base, as photographed.
You more commonly see these clam shell bowls or decorative vases in a pink and white shade. This blue colourway is more unusual. The outer shell section is made of black glass, then there is a fine layer of white glass (which forms a thin white line all around the edge of the shell opening. The interior is Royal Blue - and at the corner creases the underlying white layer shines through slightly - giving a different shade to the top blue layer. It is quite a special piece and certainly looks much better in real life.
The piece can to shown upright or placed for display at an angle. There are two polished bases to allow you to do this.
Dimensions: just over 6 1/2 inches wide. The height is about 4 1/4 (when standing upright). The depth is 3 3/4 inches.
It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, or scratches. It retains its original label on the base.
As it is glass, I will have to pack it very carefully - in a box inside a sturdy outer box etc. This means it will have to go Parcelforce24. This will cost around £10 and applied to your order at the checkout.
