This is a rare and collectable piece of Austrian Art Glass. It takes the form of a large clear hand blown vase - with alternating orange and red colour applied glass trails along the sides and finishing off at the central polished pontil area of the base.
The vase dates to the 1930s and was probably made by Pallme Konig & Hagel. It is unsigned which was common on these pieces.
It is a nice understated design and will look good on display in your collection of early 20th Century Bohemian glass.
Dimensions: The height is 8 1/4 inches. The diameter of the rim is 3 1/2 inches. The diameter of the vase at the widest point is 7 inches.
It is in excellent vintage condition with no damages. It is listed on my website at a fair price.
HISTORY: The Pallme glassworks was first established in Steinschonau, Austria, in approximately 1786 by Ignaz Pallme-Konig. In the 1880s and 1890s the firm of Pallme-Konig was making and exporting high quality engraved glass and chandeliers. Around the turn of the century they merged with Wilhelm Habel's Elizabethhutte glassworks near Teplitz and became known as "Glasfabrik Elisabeth, Pallme-Konig and Habel".
Pallme-Konig and Habel glass is not usually signed, and does not normally have a pontil mark. The whole vase, with its molten trails on the surface, was normally blown into a mold and then finished from the top.
