This is a beautiful pieces of Okra Glass. I have sold a couple of other pieces by David Barras that I had previously listed.
This fine perfume bottle dates around the 1980s and is marked Okra on the base: with etched signature: D BARRAS.
Okra Glass was owned and run by Richard Golding. The company produced mainly iridescent glass and has been in continuous production since 1979.
This is an exquisite perfume bottle, and I love the very exotic shape of the bottle and its fabulous long stopper. The glass artist must have been taking inspiration from Tiffany Glass to produce this lovely piece. Bottle and stopper are of course in perfect, damage-free condition.
It is certainly a most wonderful and highly skilled piece of English Studio Glass at the end of the 20th Century.
The perfume bottle is of an undulating shape - with a wider section to the base and a globular section with flared rim above. The bottle section has a decorative white streak running around with a subtle rainbow lustre - rather like you might find on mother of pearl. Above the white trail are iridescent peacock trails - which continue onto the globular section above and cover it all over. There is a subtle gold lustre on top of the blue glass inside the rim - and this colour carries onto the stopper.
The height of the vase is just under 4 inches - and the diameter at the widest point is about 3 1/2 inches.
The stopper measures. just 3 1/2 inches in length. The overall height of the main bottle section is just over 3 1/4 inches. The overall height when the stopper is in place is 5 3/4 inches. The diameter at the widest point is 3 1/4 inches.
Although a smaller size - the value of this piece is in the skill used in the making - it is a unique piece - and you will not find another like it.
Have taken lots of images - these will give you an idea of all the exquisite details in this top-quality piece of Okra. It certainly looks even better in "real life".
