This is a delightful little antique polished brass metal planter.
It is one of two similar little planters or Arts and Crafts plant pots that I have listed on my website.
The main body of the pot is made of polished brass. It is just so pretty and a more miniature size for a smaller sized domestic interior. It would be large enough to hold a small plant.
It dates to the early 20th century. It is all hand-made - but I can see no maker's mark on it anywhere.
It is a little larger than my silvered one. There are decorative repousee panels on each side, as photographed. These feather and central rose surrounded by whiplash trails. The background is coated with tiny dimples had have been hand beaten. The sides flare out towards the bottom of the planter. Again, another wide and wire edged rim, as on my silvered one. This is generally nice and and straight with no warping or dents. It is just a lovely wee antique Glasgow planter - I love it! I am tempted to keep it.. I am ho-humming on listing this.. oh! tough decisions.
The design seems to borrow from other metal pieces designed by Margaret Gilmour or Marion Henderson Wilson - but of course my one is not signed. It is as you see it!
As you can see from my photographs - it is beautifully made with no dents or bashes. I have taken images of all sides and from a variety of angles. Please looks at all these image carefully as they form part of my description. I have also taken images of my listed silvered example beside this larger brass one.
Dimensions: The overall height is 5 1/2 inches (14 cm). The rim is nearly 7 1/2 inches square (19 cm). The sides are 5 1/2 wide at the top and at the bottom they are 6 3/4 inches. These smaller planters are harder to source - and this is such a beautifully made one. This is reflected in my asking price.
CONDITION. The planter has no dents or dings. The bottom is secure and with no leaking. The base plate has no obvious thinning or the metal or any holes in it. The corners are un- dented and the cut-away feet are firmly attached and also without issue.
