This is a delightful and quite lovely piece of early 20th century metalwork that I have listed in my shop.
This time we have a large polished brass lidded coal bucket or log bin. It has nice whiplash handles to the side and a ogee shape lid that sits on top of the base section.
It would look great in your sitting room next the hearth to an open fireplace or log pile. It is also a lovely item just to have in a period Edwardian interior just as a decorative item.
Please also see my two little miniature plant pots or planters that I have just listed.
The main body of the pot is made of brass and dates to the early 20th century. It is all hand-made - but I can see no maker's mark on it anywhere . Their are identical decorative Art Nouveau floral decorations on the front and back - and sides with the beautifully shaped handles.
As you can see from my photographs - it is beautifully made and in pretty good antique condition. . I have taken images of all sides and from a variety of angles. Please looks at all these image carefully as they form part of my description. It was a little difficult to photograph the box as the exterior was so shiny and gave off a lot of reflections.
The edge around flared rim is a wired and turned over one. It has cut-away shaped feet. There are mock rivets applied as decoration along faux turned corners along the sides of the bucket.. The lid is original to the box - as the handle on the lid is of the same design as those on the side handles.
CONDITION. The planter is sold in good condition. It has been used in the past and had a little rusting to the interior (which has its original thin applied tin or steel lining). This has now been painted black to look more attractive. It's finish is commensurate with age and use - but it does look good on display. You wont be disappointed with it. The bottom panel is secure and with no leaking. The exterior brassbase plate has no obvious thinning or the metal or any holes in it. The corners are un- dented, the cut-away feet and handles are firmly attached and also without issue. All this is taken into account with my pricing of this nice large early 20th century metalware.
