This is from a few listings of 1930s / 1940s Art Deco Perfume Bottles and Novelties that are listed in my store.
In the late 1930s Bourjois issued a series of miniature ‘Evening in Paris’ perfume bottles inside novelty blue bakelite containers. The most famous were the Grandfather Clock, the Owl and the Door. Steve Mankervis in his book ‘Plastic Passion’ (published by Schiffer) says these quirky containers are made of ‘Blue Mottled Phenolic.
This vintage Bourjois perfume holder takes the form of a dark blue clam or scallop shell. Inside there is the original perfume bottle - this is 3/4 full. The fragrance (again) is called "Evening in Paris". The back of the shell is marked "Made in England / Reg d. No 81009". The shell has a latch on the front to open and access the perfume bottle. Good vintage condition, no chips or cracks.
The shell is 8 cm in height and 6.8 cm wide. The miniature perfume bottle inside measures 4.9 cm in height x 3 cm wide.
The bottle is presented inside the he original card backing board in the box. There is a little stain on this just under the lid of the perfume where there has been a little leakage in the distance past.
This is a fair price for this vintage Bourjois collectable novelty perfume bottle. I also have a white one listed.
