This is from a few listings of 1930s / 1940s Art Deco Perfume Bottles and Novelties that are listed in my store.
In the late 1930s Bourjois issued a series of miniature ‘Evening in Paris’ perfume bottles inside novelty blue bakelite containers. The most famous were the Grandfather Clock, the Owl and the Door. Steve Mankervis in his book ‘Plastic Passion’ (published by Schiffer) says these quirky containers are made of ‘Blue Mottled Phenolic.
This vintage Bourjois perfume holder takes the form of blue hotel door. The door is marked with the letter "B" and there is a little silver label on the central section with the name of the fragrance. The door opens out with a hinge to the side. There is a little black door handle (undamaged) and outside of the door are two pairs of little black shoes put out to be polished by hotel staff overnight. The back of the door is marked 'Bourjois – London – Paris – Regd No. 832.419 – Made in England'.
It is in good vintage condition, no chips or cracks.
It comes complete with its cobalt blue bottle for Evening in Paris perfume. The perfume bottle is empty. It is such a fine bottle - of long lozenge or bullet form and faceted all around. It has a pale blue screw on bakelite cap with a silk white and blue tassel. The bottle is still attached to the original presentation card section in the box. I love this wee bottle!
The door is 9.3 cm in height - it is about 5.5 cm in width. The bottle is 8 cm in length.
This is a fair price for this vintage Bourjois collectable novelty perfume bottle.
