This is from a few listings of 1930s / 1940s Art Deco Perfume Bottles and Novelties that are listed in my store.
In the late 1930s Bourjois issued a series of miniature ‘Evening in Paris’ perfume bottles inside novelty blue bakelite containers. The most famous were the Grandfather Clock, the Owl and the Door. Steve Mankervis in his book ‘Plastic Passion’ (published by Schiffer) says these quirky containers are made of ‘Blue Mottled Phenolic.
This little sky blue bakelite box in the form of an owl is probably my favourite one in the series.
This vintage Bourjois perfume holder in the shape of a owl is made of mottled blue Bakelite. It comes complete with its bottle of Evening in Paris perfume. The perfume bottle is nearly full to the top, as photographed. It is harder to find these bottles with near complete contents.
The owl scent bottle holder measures 10 cm tall and the back is hinged to form a box to contain the perfume bottle. The cobalt blue miniature glass perfume bottle measures 5.8 cm in height and it is 3.2 cm wide. It has its original silver and blue label.
The back is impressed 'Bourjois – London – Paris – Regd No. 825.003 – Made in England'.
The Owl and its little miniature bottle are both in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
