This is a rare piece of 1930s design. On offer here is this fabulous Art Deco bakelite ashtray taking the form of a tennis ball. Similar ones were issued by Dunlops at this time - but those had arms that folded out. This 1930s Buttner one has fixed rests for your cigarettes - there are four built-in rests in total.
My one is definitely a pre-war example. It is just slightly larger than a tennis ball - the bottom half of the ashtray is a peppermint green colour and the top half is black bakelite. It has found rests for you cigarette. In the centre of the black section is an aperture where you dispose of your spent cigarette. There is an ingenious little stubber made of metal inside - so you can put your cigarette out and it does not burn the base container. The top and base sections are on threads that screw together - so you are able to empty out the contents easily.
It is in very good vintage condition. There is no discolouration to the green bakelite - and the interior is without burns or cigarette marks. There are no chips to the bakelite and it looks great on display.
It is just over 3 inches in height.
This is now a hard item to find as not many have survived. It is quite sculptural and will look good on display in a period interior. Although it might have been designed to function as an ashtray - it is superb clean and has no nasty smells or stains. It is in near "as new" condition.
I have already sold a couple of bakelite Buttner boxes - these were snapped up quickly! My price reflects its condition and rarity. It is now over 90 years old.
This ashtray will be sent to you in the UK with Royal Mail Recorded Post. This will cost £5.50 and applied to your order at the checkout.
