This is a large vintage carved wooden Dutch folk art gingerbread mould or Speculaasplank.
It probably dates to the mid-20th century - but looks back to older examples for inspiration and design.
It is made of a large wooden slab that has been finely carved with an image of a man in ancient costume, perhaps depicting William III with his little dog. The carving on this is certainly quite fine in detail - and it has been deeply carved into the wood (to a depth of around of about 1/4 of an inch)
The wood slab is 3 /4 inch thick. It is 20 1/4 inches in height and with a width of 7 1/4 inches.
It is carved on a honey-coloured hardwood slab which has a pronounced grain. There is a darker grain on the wood that runs down the centre - it is not a crack to the wood - it is just a part of the natural pattern in the wood itself. The wood has not been treated with any oils so could be used as a culinary item. A coloured wood oil or wax would further enhance the natural grain of the wood. Some of my images show the wood as a more grey tone - however, please note the wood is a warm honey colour on the actual carving.
The mould is lovely and clean - and I don't think that it has ever been used - but probably used in the past just for display or decoration in a country kitchen or bakery. Given its size and condition - it is fairly priced and you won't be disappointed with it.
It will have to be sent within the UK with Parcelforce24. This will cost £10 and applied to your order at the cheque out.
