This is one of a selection of vintage Scottish paperweights which I am listing in my shop - all with very fair prices attached to them.
The one was made by Selkirk Glass in the Scottish Borders. It is etched on the base Selkirk Glass Scotland 1999. It seems to have been a special one-ff commission as there is also a personal inscription very, very lightly inscribed on the base: Happy 40th Birthday Diane. This is almost invisible and the weight displays very well.
It has the original Selkirk Glass round silver label in the center of the base.
Selkirk Glass was set up by Peter Holmes and Ron Hutchison in 1977. Peter Holmes left in 2002. The company sadly closed in 2006 - so these beautiful weights are no longer being made.
It has a height of just over 3 inches and a diameter of 3 1/2 inches.
It is a very pretty magnum-size weight - with a simple minimalistic design. It takes the form of a clear crystal ball - which has a swirl of close-packed tiny bubbles in the base - and they issue out into a swirling plume of glittery and twinkling controlled bubbles.
