This is a more unusual vintage Scottish Caithness Glass paperweight.
It was made in 199 by the celebrated Caithness glass designer, Colin Terris, It dates to 1999 and comes from the series "Collectable Eggs". It is engraved on the base: Caithness / Daffodil / Scotland.
The title of the weight is Daffodil and it is probably an Easter issues - given that it is both shaped like and egg and has yellow daffodils incorporated into the design. The weight would need a wee stand or ring to sit in as the bottom is not completely flat and rocks on a flat surface due to the egg shape.
It is a high-domed paperweight and it has been made from a very dark green glass. The glass is so dark that it looks almost black - but you can see the dark green shade if it is held to the light. There are three abstract daffodils running the weight. and little white vertical lines in between. The base is decorated with lots of little fused millefiori canes that look a little like meadow flowers. It is a harder weight by Terris to source and you dont find them on offer for sale often.
It is in excellent condition with no damages. The height of the weight is 3 3/4 inches and the width at the widest point is 2 3/4 inches.
This is such a stunning Scottish weight. I love the shape, colours and skill in making this one. It is in good vintage condition and looks great in your collection. The dark glass colour with very reflective - so it made it a little tricky to photograph - I hope that my images do it justice.
The height 3 1/2 inches and with a diameter of 3 inches at the widest point. Unpacked it is 750 grams.
