his is a pretty vintage face powder compact that takes the form of a little handbag.
It dates to the 1950s and was made by Mascot. These wee compact are so cute and hard to find in this lovely condition.
One side has a petit-point embroidery. This consists of tiny stitches making up a picture featuring a bouquet of dusty pink roses set against a black silk background.
The other side of the compact is gold-tone with an engine-turned pattern on the metal, as photographed. The sides all around are plain and shiny. There is a handle on the top of the bag – and you push this back to open up the compact.
Inside there is a powder reservoir – with a locking gold-tone cover. The top of this is marked: Mascot ASB. It is also inscribed Made in Great Britain under the mirror section in tiny letters.
The original powder sifter is still inside – this is generally nice and clean – but does have some remnants of old powder on the edges.
The hinges and opening mechanism work just fine and are nice and firm.
The mirror has no issues, marks or damages.
Dimensions: the height to the top of the handle is 2 ½ inches – and the width is 3 inches. The depth of the compact is about ½ inch.
It is listed at a fair price - these novelty compacts are much sought after and this one is a bit more so with its embroidered detailing.
It will cost £4.95 to send to you with Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded Delivery in the UK.
