Highly Collectable Norwegian 1950s Greenland Series Bowl.
It is one of a group of collectable pieces of vintage Scandinavian Hadleland glass that I currently have in my online store (photographed as a group here so that you can see the difference in sizes etc).
I have previously sold two similar pieces measuring 13 inches.
This is ONE OF THE LARGEST Hadeland Greenland pieces that I have ever seen!
This is a fine piece of Scandinavian Art Glass - it is hand-blown and made of a fine emerald green glass - it contains masses of bubble inclusions and pronounced pontil mark to the base, as photographed.
It is signed: Hadeland near the pontil, as photographed.
Diameter: 19 inches - and height is 1 1/2 inches; in excellent condition. Unpacked it is a stonking 4 kg in weight.
This rare centrepiece was designed for Hadeland Glass by Arne Jon Jutrem. It is part of a series is called Greenland - and it won a gold medal in the Triennale di Milano in 1954.
Hadeland Glass was first established in 1762 - making it the oldest continuously operating manufacturing company in Norway. The company started out making bottles, apothecary jars, and fishing floats - but by the early 20th century it was producing fine tableware and art glass in the Scandinavian modern style.
The designer of the Greenland series was a celebrated Norwegian painter, designer and Professor of Aesthetics. He was employed by Hadeland from 1950 - 1962 and later from 1988 to 1994 as its Art Manager, Arne Jon Jutrem.
These vintage Greenland pieces are highly sought after - and my shallow bowl is listed at a very fair price.
It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
Probably a piece of the more specialist glass collector. Would look good on display on a Scandi-modern coffee table or bureau.
This is an extremely rare piece - and have never seen one quite of large before - this is reflected in my asking price. To me, it looks like a large waterlily pad.
UK posting only - it will be sent to you with Parcelforce48 - this will be capped for you at £14.95 and this amount will be applied to your order at the checkout.
