This is a pretty little vintage Scottish Art Pottery Bowl.

It probably relates to one of the "Lady Artists" who worked at Bough or Mak Merry potteries. They were encouraged to work decorating blank pottery items and they painted decorative designs on the fired blanks - and then had them glazed and re-fired.

Sometimes the pieces are marked with the artist's initials and sometimes they are simply unsigned.

This pretty twin-handled ceramic bowl or shallow quaich - has been signed and dated on the base: J. Liddell 1934 - and also with entwined letters: DHS, as photographed.

As you can see this lovely piece of 1930s Art Pottery is a very attractive example. The interior of the dish has a geometric pattern in the centre - but it is the base of the bowl which is the most lovely - it has a fine Art Nouveau design all hand painted in yellow and blue - with acanthus leaves and bright butterflies - as photographed.

I have priced it to reflect its age, the quality of the decoration and the condition. It is in good condition with no chips or cracks - there is a little mark (I think a scuff in the painting when made) to the edge of the bowl interior - and I have photographed this for you.

An interesting piece of Scottish Art Pottery - nearly 100 years old. Please see my other piece of the same shape - made about the same time - but unsigned.

Dimensions: the main body is 6 inches in diameter with a height of 2 1/4 inches. From handle to handle - it is 8 inches. The wee bowl weighs 270 grams unpacked.

This dish will be sent to you in the UK with Royal Mail Recorded Post - this will cost £5.50 and will be applied to your order at the checkout.
