This is a cute little lot of hand-painted early 20th century Bough pottery side plates. They are more cabinet pieces for display rather than functional. But of course - you can use them if you are careful!

This little set is hand-painted, each with a matching floral pattern on each of them. There are two different sizes. The smaller three plates are 7 inches in diameter (two with yellow dash borders and one with green dashes). The larger three plates are 8 inches in diameter (two with green dashes and one with yellow).

Each item is fully marked to the base, as photographed.

I can easily date these for you - they are now over 100 years old - official antique pieces - they were made in 1919. The initials on the base are for Elizabeth Amour at Bough Pottery.

They were probably painted on little china "blanks" that were made and supplied by Maling and Sons, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and used by Bough.

The decoration features attractive stylized flowers that you find on Bough pieces. The colours are all fresh and spring-like. The design is very Art Nouveau in style - with patterns of little white flowers and a Bough favourite - green apples.

CONDITION: In good condition for Bough pieces now 100 years old - with no chips or cracks. The smaller plates are all fine - one wee blemish to the bottom edge of one (done in the making). Nice and clean with no craquleure. The larger plates are in fine antique damage-free condition - some very, very light cutlery marks to one - only seen in a raking light - mentioned here for accuracy.

Bargain price here for clearance - the plates are often harder to find - especially matching ones. So have priced these at £15 per plate.

Postage for the set would be capped at £5.50 with Royal Mail Recorded Post - and this would be applied at checkout.

HISTORY: Bough Pottery was founded by Elizabeth and Richard Amour in the 1920s. They specialized in decorating blanks - which they bought in from pottery companies in England and Scotland (many from Maling Pottery, Newcastle).
