This is a very attractive antique Scottish Art Pottery vase.
The decoration is very pretty and reminiscent of some Wemyss ware items from about the same time.
Please also see my larger vase with the same pattern and shape which is also available in my store.
This vase is 6 inches in height. The diameter at the rim is 2 3/4 inches. The diameter at the base is 3 1/2 inches. As you can see the base sweeps out and makes this vase very stable.
It is in excellent condition and looks fabulous on display. It has no chips or cracks - there is a little fine antique craquelure to the surface - which is commensurate with age and the type of glaze used on this pottery. Please look at my images on the listing in close-up view. There is a bit more crazing to the inside of the vase than on my other ones - and this is reflected in a reduced price.
It is amazing that these pieces have survived in this condition given that they are now about 140 years old - and it looks as if they could have been made only yesterday.
The decoration is spongeware - and this pattern is a rarer one.
