This is another pretty piece of Victorian Scottish pottery - made by Robert Heron & Sons / Methven Pottery, Kirkcaldy.

It is an attractive little lidded bowl that comes complete with a matching cover. I love the handle on the lid - it is a fabulous shape.

It seems to have been a pot intended for cooking - due to the presence of the little air hole under the handle - but I would certainly never use this to cook food in today.

Dimensions: Overall height of the pot is 4 inches. The diameter at the widest point is 5 1/2 inches.

Code J

It is probably more of an item that you might display than for regular use.

Robert Methven Heron was the owner of the Fife Pottery in Kirkcaldy. He introduced a new pottery range called Wemyss Ware in 1882.

It is a fine piece of antique Scottish studio pottery.

It is certainly a very fresh hand-painted pattern. I have a number of pieces with this decoration on sale in my online store. Again, this bowl is in pretty fine antique condition.

It has no nasty chips or disfiguring cracks. The glaze on the pot is nice and glossy - so would assess this as being a very lovely piece in good antique condition. The exterior looks just lovely - but sadly there is some little grey stains to the pottery in the base of the pot - probably from having been used in the distant past. These wee stains are not dirty - just not so nice on the eye.

I have priced with the little interior marks taken into consideration.

These pots and matching covers are much harder to find.

The price to post in the UK will be £4.95 - this is with Royal Mail 2nd Class Recorded and applied to your order at checkout.

If you would like more than one of my Heron / Methven items - I can cap multiple purchases at £10 in the UK.

What a treat!

After a recommendation from a friend I found this lovely site and this particular temptation. As all the reviews have said, the owner couldn’t be more helpful and provides an excellent and friendly service. I pass on the recommendation to others in turn!
