This is a delightful decorative piece of Scottish Art Pottery. It dates to the first half of the 20th Century - and was decorated by one of the Scottish Lady Decorators or Painters.
At this time, local Scottish potteries in Glasgow and ones in Edinburgh such as Bough or Makmerry engaged ladies to hand decorate blank pieces made by larger factories or firms. The blanks are not usually marked but you often find the monogram or name of the lady artist painted on the base. This one has a signature on the front, R Carr, as photographed.
This one is just so beautifully painted it is a display plate or shallow bowl - and it is just like a little work of art. It is obviously a unique work. It shows a Highland landscape - with a blue sky with white fluffy clouds, In the far distance as purple-headed mountains, and in the middled distance a strip of trees on a river bank. The river takes up most of the foreground. I have taken lots of details so you can see just how finely painted it is. One thing is for sure - you won't find another like it.
Dimensions: The Diameter is just over 8 3/4 inches.
These are unique pieces of old Scottish Art Pottery My asking price is certainly a fair one and it will look just great on display - I have another three similar ones on offer in my shop - I have attached an image of them together.
