This is a delightful little antique white metal planter.
It is one of two similar little planters or Arts and Crafts plant pots that I have listed on my website.
The main body of the pot is made of brass and then had a silver-coloured metal (polished tin) layer applied on the top of it. It is just so pretty and a more miniature size for a smaller sized domestic interior. It would be large enough to hold a small plant.
It dates to the early 20th century. It is all hand-made - but I can see no maker's mark on it anywhere - and it is decorated with more of a Glasgow Style Art Nouveau decoration. Their are identical friezes at the top on each side. It has a heart shaped motif surrounded by whiplash shapes. The same decoration in a reduced form is seen on each side around the base.
The design seems to borrow from other metal pieces designed by Margaret Gilmour or Marion Henderson Wilson - but of course my one is not signed. It is as you see it!
As you can see from my photographs - it is beautifully made with no dents or bashes. I have taken images of all sides and from a variety of angles. Please looks at all these image carefully as they form part of my description. I have also taken images of my silvered example beside the larger brass one.
The edge around rim is a wired and turned over one.
Dimensions: The overall height is 5 1/4 inches (13 cm). The rim is 5 1/2 inches square (14 cm). The sides are four inches wide - and the sides are 5 1/8 inches from foot to under the rim section. These smaller planters are harder to source - and this is such a beautifully made one. This is reflected in my asking price.
CONDITION. The planter has no dents or dings. The bottom is secure and with no leaking. The base plate has no obvious thinning or the metal or any holes in it. The corners are un- dented and the cut-away feet are firmly attached and also without issue.
