This is a genuine old carved necklace - dating to the late 19th century, c 1880s
It has been carved from genuine antique tortoiseshell - and these old natural pieces are now highly collectable.
The chain consists of a length of carved flat oval 'shell disks - with holes in each end - and through these holes are the carved chain links.
This chain is very unusual - and it is finished off with a large flat tortoiseshell bell embellished with lovely natural markings.
The bell is 1 ¾ inch in height. The total drop is 18 inches.
A most unusual old necklace - beautifully made. You don't see these pieces now that often - so a bit of a rare survivor.
