This is a fine Scottish silver brooch - which was made by AH Darby & Sons after a slightly earlier late 1930s design by Alexander Ritchie.
It is a Celtic Revival penannular brooch.
This piece was made from an earlier Ritchie design and made by the Birmingham silversmiths Darby and Sons who made occasional out-worker pieces for Alexander Ritchie during the later part of the ICA period in the 1930s.
After Ritchie's death, they continued production of a few of his designs exactly to Ritchie's original specifications.
It has a Birmingham hallmark with the date letter: V
This dates this fine piece to 1945.
