This is a very interesting piece of mid-century Swedish pottery.
It was made by Thomas Hellstrom who joined the Nittsjo Pottery in 1958 as a designer. His modernist designs were always very popular - and examples of his work are in the collection of the National Museum of Sweden in Stockholm.
This vase it typical of his work - the base section is made up of a rough terracotta with a gritty textured surface - the neck flares out at the top and is coated with a dark blue glaze. It is glazed inside.
It is a very large piece - being some 13 inches in height (33 cm) and weighs nearly 2.3 kg in weight.
It is fully marked on the base with production details, as photographed.
Sadly, due its heavyweight and size of this vase - it would have to be restricted to UK posting only. We might be able to deliver locally to save postage costs.
A great display piece for a mid-century interior - would look stunning on a Scandinavian sideboard or bureau.
