This is a stunning piece of antique stained glass and it dates to the late 19th century / early 20th century.
It takes the form of a dome shaped stained glass hanging shade - which would look amazing in a large Victorian entrance hall or perhaps perfect for a church conversion. It really would need quite a high ceiling height for it to look effective.
It is a very substantial piece - with lots of lead used in its creation - and all the glass is nice and thick - with wonderful and very subtle colours. You would certainly need a good installation to a metal ceiling rose as the weight unpacked is a stonking 4.3 kg. It is NOT a modern reproduction but a carefully crafted antique example.
The hand-made bronze chains (as photographed) are original to the shade - and these hook onto three bronze hooks inside the shade and the hooks are held firmly in place being securely soldered to a dark metal (probably bronze) ring concealed inside the shade itself. I love where the hooks are attached - there is a little metal flower detail on the exterior (a sign of quality and attention to detail), again as photographed.
You don't come across these antique shades that often, and this one is in excellent condition with all the glass intact. I like the addition of raised glass cabochons in the design. The central purple one - is just lovely. It has been priced to take into account its rarity, the sheer quality of the shade - and just how very attractive it is!
It is surely very much of showstopper - and once installed you will never want to change it! In the right interior it is just such a beautiful antique shade. The colours and mottled glass used in this shade remind me a little of those used in Tiffany Shades of this period (I am not saying that this is a Tiffany shade - but it is certainly very much inspired by his colours and design, without being a copy item).
The shade might need specialist installation to make sure that the weight is fine with your ceiling.
The dimensions are 15 3/4 inches diameter. The height is 7 3/4 inches. The bronze chains that come with the shade are each 22 inches in length. There are three chains in total. These attach to the shade and would then go onto a ceiling rose - I think that we have an old bronze attachment hook that we can supply with this.
Due to its weight - and how carefully we shall have to pack and insure etc it is going to be about £24.95 to post to you. If I can post cheaper - then happy to refund any overpayment. Free delivery in the Edinburgh area.
I have taken oodles and oodles of images for your inspection: so please look at all these. Please feel free to ask my any questions.
