This is a fine decorative piece - and will look great on a mantlepiece or period Victorian interior.
It is slightly more unusual in that this piece was designed to hold a pocket watch or small travelling clock - and so act as a mantel clock. There is a little decorative cartouche or crest - into which you can place your pocket watch. The watch holder section looks a little like a Rococo wall font or well head.
The two ladies have their arms draped around the watch section. They are almost prancing about. They look like twins - and have identical costumes. They wear a long glossy blue over-jacket - with a glimpse of an orange waistcoat below. They have full pale yellow skirts over their petticoats. Their dresses are decorated with tiny gold dots. Each lady has little black shoes and a cute pink bow on top of their heads. They have long plaid scarves wrapped around their wrists - this tartan scarf suggests they are probably "Scotch Lasses".
They stand on an oval-shaped bank with brown bracken or moss.
It is certainly quirky and a highly decorative piece.
It is a nice large size measuring 11 3/4 inches in height. It is 8 inches wide and with a depth of 3 inches. Unpacked it is 1.2 kg in weight.
It probably dates to around the 1880s.
This is rare Staffordshire figurine - and I am finding it hard to find another like it - these pocket watch holders are harder-to-find. I did find another listed as being sold in the States earlier in 2024 - however, that one had major damage with the head being damaged at the neck, also some wear, abrasions and crazing to the glaze.
This one is in excellent condition with no damage. I am amazed that it has had no damage over more then 100 years - especially with it being a more functional piece. There are also a lot of "sticky out" bits to the modelling - and these are so easy to break of knock off. So example which is in excellent antique condition and highly decorative - it is a genuine 19th-century model and NOT a modern reproduction.
My price reflects its wonderful condition and also its rarity.
This one has UK Posting Only. I would have to send to you very carefully packed with Parcelforce24 so that it doesn't get broken in transit. This will cost just over £10 and applied to your order at the checkout.
