This is a nice item for more formal drinks and dining.
It is a 1st quality Edinburgh Crystal Wine (or Whisky) Decanter. It is a much rarer mallet shape with a spectacular faceted ball stopper. It has two original paper labels and has an etched signature on the base (dating to the 1980s).
The shoulder of the decanter has an all-over criss-cross pattern. Around the base of the decanter is a pattern that I have been unable to identify - but is close to the Kelso pattern - but this one has more points on the fan shape.
The base has a deeply engraved star shape.
The decanter is 10 inches in height - with no damage or clouding to the interior. It is 4 1/2 inches at the widest. The stopper is 2 1/2 inches in diameter and 4 inches in length. The stopper is original to the decanter and has no condition issues.
The decanter has never been used - and is still in its original purple box which is lined with purple satin.
The etched pattern covering nearly all of the decanter is stunning as seen in my images. It is certainly a lovely Scottish crystal decanter. I think that the shape is officially classified as a wine decanter - but it would certainly be most suitable for your single malts.
