How fabulous is this bear - he has such a cute little face - and he is not only musical - but also mechanical and moves his head from left to right. A wee child would have loved this wound up and playing the "Go To Sleep" lullaby by Brahms and watching him shake his head.
He is an adorable little vintage limited edition Steiff / GEBRUDER BING (GBN) Style Bear, now retired and hard to find. He is not an original antique Bing Bear - but a later working of one of their earlier designs from 1910.
He is 37 cm in height and comes with tags stating that he is No. 126 out of a limited edition of only 500 bears.
This one, none the less, is a rare and more collectable one - he is musical and you turn a key on his back and he plays a little tune. The tune is the famed Lullaby one - and whilst the music plays the bear turns his head back and forwards slowly - as if shaking his head and saying No-No.. hence the name.
The bear must have been made for Steiff by Gebruder Bing - as there is no button in his ear - and instead he has a little metal button on his side - and a white tag on the back. The bear comes with his original paper tag and also with a Steiff bag. The bag states that this musical bear was made solely for the UK and Ireland market. The bag has the Steiff logo and the Musical Bear.
He is totally adorable and made from honey-coloured long mohair with light brown felt on his paws. He has little black glass eyes with a more hairless snout with embroidered black nose and mouth. He has a little silver winding key on this back - and around his neck he wears a chain wit a little gold coloured key on it. He is fully jointed.
The musical mechanism and head turn both work perfectly. The bear is sold in "as-new" condition - and is lovely and clean. He never had a box and instead was sold in the bag.
He is listed here at a very fair price for a collectable musical Steiff. A harder to find bear - so this is reflected in my asking price. I cant find another one like him and hardly any were made in the first place,
