These are two little glass pieces designed by the British glass maestro Frank Thrower (1932 - 1987). He is certainly at present a most undervalued British designer. He was the chief designer for Dartington Glass from the time it was founded in 1966 until he died in 1987.
On offer here and two small pieces of glass that Wedgwood issued in the 1980s. The first item is called Juliet - and it is a little footed bowl. It comes in its original box - this is often lost - so special to find one boxed up It measures 12.5 cm in height, the diameter across the rim is 11.5 cm and the diameter across the base is 6 cm. I have attached a price of £20 which is fair with the rare box.
The simple pared-down graphics on the boxes certainly indicate Thrower's fine minimal style.
The other item is a tiny bud vase. The pattern is called Ming and was made in 1982. It is illustrated on page 33 of "Frank Thrower& Dartington Glass" by Eve Thrower and Mark Hill. It is 17.5 cm in height and is about 10 cm at the widest point. The vase is fluted around the outside - this is an effect that Thrower called Optic. Listed at only £12
Both pieces are in a midnight blue-grey tone. They are perfect.
Thrower pieces can only be anticipated to increase in price, so snap up a bargain now.
These two pieces will be sent to you with Royal Mail Recorded (Small Parcel). This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
