This is an interesting 1950s C.A.I (Celtic Arts Industries) Iona Silver brooch after an earlier design by Alexander Ritchie.
It is his "Dove" Brooch.
These silver Iona Dove brooches had also been made by Alexander Ritchie in plain and enamelled silver versions as pendants.
The design was a popular one and continued to be made under license (as here) from the original moulds after Ritchie's death in 1941.
The C.A,I. mark relates to the Celtic Art Industries - which was set up by Hamish Dawson-Bowman in the 1950s with silversmiths John Hart, as well as MacCormack who was apprenticed to Alexander Ritchie.
This one is finely cast with crisp detail, The brooch shows a dove perched with open wings on a circular perch - with Celtic decoration at the top.
It measures 5.5 cm from wing tip to wing tip. The overall height is 4.3 cm.
A special piece of Scottish silver, nearly 100 years old - obviously if it had been stamped AR - it would have had a much higher price tag. For a marked Iona piece from the 1950s, it is on offer here at a fair price.
It is in excellent condition with nice solid pin. It is all clean and ready to wear. It will be sent in a simple gift box for you to keep safe in your collection of vintage Scottish jewellery.
