These early 20th-century antique souvenir glasses from the Edinburgh International Exhibition of 1908 are now very rare and much sought after.
These would have been purchased by visitors to the site - and some w ere also engraved with the names of buyers or their friends on the back. Th
This exhibition was held at Saughton Park and souvenirs from this show are much rarer finds. The tallest two glasses are decorated with Nouveau script and Edinburgh City Crest as photographed. The smaller and heavier one has the same script on the front - but it also has an engraved image of the layout of the site on the reverse. This glass was made in the Scottish Glassworks Company of John Baird Ltd., (1876-1940) 99 Milton St. Dundas Glasgow, Makers of Flint glass and other glass, plus plate glass mirrors with copper back.
They measure as follows: the tallest is 6 inches; the other ones are 4 inches (with the one with the site on it being much heavier and is 2 3/4 inches in diameter). The other 4-inch one is better quality and has a thick base and is fluted all around the base section. One is inscribed Effie Brown and the other has the word Mother.. awe!
Nice pieces of local history: You will have to look long and hard to find other examples of this glass outside museums or specialist collections.
Given that these rather delicate tumblers are 115 years old it is remarkable that they have survived at all. Many have been broken over the century and they are now exceptionally hard to find - especially like my ones - which have no chips or cracks - and the images are all still intact.
I am pricing them at just under £20 each glass for two glasses with just the text etc and the other with the image on the back is priced at £30 - these are historic items. This is a very fair price - and your postage will be with Royal Mail Recorded Delivery (Small Parcel), and this will be applied to your order at the checkout.
I have taken photographs for your inspection. They are my Code E. The ones in the photographs are the ones that will be sent to you.
