This is a rare abstract paperweight by Shona Spittal.
It is called Istanbul and is dated to 1992
It comes from a limited edition of only 650 weights (closed at 279). It originally retailed for £100 - which reflected the complexity of the design.
This paperweight is No 226.
The weight is egg-shaped with a double conjoined polished facet to the front. The ground of the base is a harlequin one and made of four coloured glass sections of red, purple, yellow, and blue glass - these sections weld together and rise in the center of the weight - taking on the form of Turkish minarets possibly shapes based on those found on the Blue Mosque in Istanbul / or more probably the shapes and colours of Turkish Circus Tents.
It is a very sophisticated weight that is in good vintage condition - with no chips, scratches, or damages.
I have been unable to find another one of these on offer for sale - so it is deemed to be a rarer weight - this is reflected in my asking price for this special one.
Postage in the UK will be £4.95 for Royal Mail Recorded Post. This will be applied at the checkout.
