This is a lovely floral paperweight by Helen MacDonald.
It is called Iris Garden and is dated to 2001. With blue speckles through the weight - it was inspired by Van Gogh's oil paintings of Irises (Van Gogh Inspirations Series).
It comes from a limited edition of 500 weights. This one is signed and with an etched edition No. 147.
It is now a harder weight to source - and probably one for the more specialist collector.
The weight is ball-shaped and inherently clear in colour. The colours of the fields and flowers and depth are achieved by placing each motif in layers inside to give a feeling of depth. The weight rests on a circular polished base - and there is a large circular polished facet on the front that acts as a viewing window when on display.
It measures just under 3 inches in diameter.
It is a very pretty weight that is in good vintage condition - with no chips, scratches or damages. There are a couple of light surface scratches of the base (as seen in my photographs) from the weight being picked up and put down over the last 20 years.
