This is another pretty piece of Victorian Scottish pottery - made by Robert Heron & Sons / Methven Pottery / Links Pottery, Kirkcaldy.
It is a shallow bowl that comes complete with a matching domed cover.
Dimensions: Overall height 4 inches from base and dome to the top of the handle. The main bowl section is 9 inches in diameter with a height of 1 1/2 inches. The dome is 6 3/4 inches with a height of 3 inches.
The weight unpacked is 700 grams.
It is probably more of an item that you might display in your kitchen on a dresser - than for regular use.
Robert Methven Heron was the owner of the Fife Pottery in Kirkcaldy. He introduced a new pottery range called Wemyss Ware in 1882.
It is a fine piece of antique Scottish studio pottery. A similar pattern is shown applied to a bottle vase on page 146 of Henry Kelly's Schiffer publication "Scottish Ceramics" (1999).
It is certainly a very fresh hand-painted pattern. I have a number of pieces with this decoration on sale in my online store. Again, this plate has no issue marks or pattern details on the base etc
These shallow bowls and covers are much harder to find - and would have probably been used as a cheese done.
It is in surprisingly good condition with no major chips or deep cracks.
CONDITION REPORT: There is a little craquelure to the glaze (generally clean and not discoloured) - very subtle in nature and certainly not disfiguring. The old delicate glaze issues would probably prevent this set from being used for everyday dining (dried goods such as cakes etc would probably be fine - or cheese on a little modern plate inside) - but certainly does not interfere with it being on display. There is no nasty staining to the pottery body - there are some little dark blotches to the interior of the base plate, commensurate with age and use - but generally pretty good considering and as photographed.
The dome cover is in pretty good antique condition - there are no major cracks - just a couple of very fine hairline glaze cracks (cross-shaped) which you don't really notice on display but only on much closer inspection. Again, I have photographed these for you. Please have a look at all the images which will help you assess any issues.
The handle on the lid is without damage or restoration.
