This is another sweet little Scottish Art Pottery piece in my online shop.
This is by the same maker who made by bright yellow trinket dish - but it is very different in both inspiration and colour palette.
The little pot stands on a little wider circular base - and it has a bulbous body - at each side of the pot are two decorative handles - there is a slightly crimped edge around the top. The lid has a little nut-shaped knop on the top.
It is a nice fresh springtime design with lots of little hand-painted flower blossoms randomly placed on the main body and on the lid. There are stacked rows of little periwinkle blue leaves forming a decorative abstract pattern. If you look closely you can see a single wee butterfly flitting about on one side of the pot.
The little lidded pot is marked with the maker's initials on the base: these are C.C.A Amour (written vertically) - for Christina (Chrissie) Amour.
The pot is a nice quality china one - and was probably made as a "blank" by Maling and Sons, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and used by Bough Pottery.
This is certainly a pretty piece of Scottish Art Pottery. You certainly don't see this design very often.
CONDITION: It is generally good condition for a Bough piece now nearly 90 years old. It has no major cracks or chips - there are, however, two very fine hairline cracks to the underside of one of the handles. The damaged handle has been repaired, as photographed (the handle remains stable and fine when the pot is on display). This has been taken into account with my much-reduced pricing for this unique little pot. It still displays well.
The dimension: is height: 4 inches and the diameter is 3 3/4 inches. From handle to handle it is 5 1/2 inches. Unpacked it is 245 grams.
Bough Pottery was founded by Elizabeth and Richard Amour in the 1920s. They specialized in decorating blanks - which they bought in from pottery companies in England and Scotland (many from Maling Pottery, Newcastle).
