This is a lovely hallmarked Scottish Silver brooch made by Malcolm Gray for Ortak.
The Ortak company was originally founded in the late sixties by Malcolm Gray in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands. The company grew steadily to become one of the UK's leading manufacturers and designers of fine silver and gold jewellery.
The beautiful brooch is an unusual Ortak design. It has such attention to detail and is a real quality piece. It has a faceted smokey quartz in the center - held in place securely with four claws.
It is fully marked with an Edinburgh hallmark and the date letter is a "D" - which would date it to 1978, There is also a tiny mark with the maker's initials: MG.
The pin is a catch and loop. Dimensions: The diameter is 4 cm.
Vintage Ortak pieces are now becoming highly collectible - so a fair price for this lovely Scottish silver designer brooch.
