This is a fabulous late 20th-century table lamp - it has a tall round-shaped shattaline material base which is in excellent condition. It also has its pale yello spun plastic fibre shade - like those found on the floor-standing Rocket Lamps.
The lamp interestingly has a Prova label on the base - which relates to it being of Italian rather than Scottish origin!
The shattaline is in generally good condition - with a couple of little nibbles to the base edge - but only noticeable if you are holding it up and inspecting closely - but not when it is on display. This is reflected in my asking price -
The shattaline base is a fine tall example 8 inches in height and it has a diameter of just under 3 1/2 inches across the base. The overall height including the shade is 18 inches.
The shade measures 8 inches in height and is 6 inches in diameter.
This vibrant orange colour with golden yellow shade is one of the most sought-after colour combinations and this is also reflected in my asking price.
It has an on / off switch on the original bulb holder.
Shattaline Limited operated from the mid-1960s for about 10 years.
They made a range of products using a patented process which created a "crazed" effect within the resin.
The company was based in Scotland for a time. They made paperweights, pen holders, candle holders, lamps, table lighters - and even tables! (I actually own a coffee table which I might sell if there was serious interest).
The process for making these items was labour-intensive and craft-based and resulted in a very high level of rejection. Stattaline items were therefore relatively expensive to make, and not the cheap plastic items that people often assume them to be.
The shade is contemporary to the lamp - and is made of a cylinder of thick and firm spun plastic - with three little decorative peg features on the shade near the bottom rim.
Due to its size and weight - my lovely lamp will have to be sent to UK addresses only - the postage will be Parcelforce48 - and this will cost £10.
It has its original wiring - but it can be rewired if you wish before we post it to you - please allow a little extra time for us to undertake this for you. If you wish to retain the original wiring on the lamp - it might be a good idea to also have it checked over by an electrician.
A nice example and will look fabulous in a space-age mid-century interior. You won't be disappointed with it - I had two in my shop - and this is the last one - which came from my own collection and had been in store for many years before listing here.
