This is one of two matching figures of an African Lady. She is very decorative and would look in a mid-century-inspired interior. Each figure faces in the same direction - so not a matched pair.

The bust has been inspired by other sculptural Deco pieces made by Karl Hagenaur and probably date to the 1950s. Both my figures are fine versions and beautifully carved - the ears are detailed (often they are depicted without any internal detailing), as are the finely carved lines depicting the weaving of the hair. My ones are better examples as they are carved in the round - not just on the front section & flat on the back - but can be displayed from both sides, again as photographed.
Being a better quality and larger sized carving of this subject - this is reflected in my asking price. You can find other examples with lower ticket prices - but these simply do not have the same quality or condition as my ones. Of course - genuine Hagenauer versions go for high hundreds!
My sculpture comes complete with its original wooden base for display - this is often missing.
It is in good condition and with a lovely vintage patina to the wood. I love the graining to the wood - this is certainly very attractive. The sculpture is nice and clean with no major chips, cracks, or damages. There is a tiny mark to the side of one ear, as photographed. The wood is a nice heavy hardwood - probably native to Africa - and this would have been harder to carve than softer European woods.
I have taken lots of images so that you can assess the size and condition easily.
The figure measures 13 3/4 inches in height. It is 9 inches wide and has a depth of 2 inches. The base is 11 inches x 4 1/2 inches.
It has a good weight to it and weighs 1.6 kg unpacked.
